I'm Eric Stein, a California-bred, Oslo-based creative and UI/UX designer with particular passions for branding, marketing strategy, and entrepreneurship. My work consistently reflects my multidisciplinary background in economics, marketing, and design.
Multifaceted and multi-cultural learning has been a strong focus of my early career. I hold an MSc in Strategic Marketing Management as a Presidential Scholarship Recipient from BI Norwegian Business School. I received my Bachelor's degree in Economics, with a Minor in Business from UC San Diego, graduating Cum Laude with Department Honors. As an undergrad student, I also studied abroad at the London School of Economics (LSE) and at L’Institut d’Etudes Politique de Paris (Sciences Po).
After my undergraduate education, I worked for a startup in Copenhagen for ~8 months. Although I was initially recruited to plan and manage their US launch, I transitioned into a UI/UX design role to translate the strategic ambitions of the startup into efficiently code-able and pleasantly clickable user experiences. Prior to moving to Oslo to begin my graduate degree, I spent ~2.5 months traveling through Southeast Asia and Australia and working as a remote employee. I also started a full-time UX design program through Designlab, to gain a formal background and foundation into design methodologies and experience-crafting skills.
Currently, I am working at X.Y.ZERO.ONE as a Jr. Brand & Venture Advisor, a business accelerator that combines the best of human elements — the X’s and Y’s — and the best of digital elements — 0’s and 1’s — to make something great. I have worked with several ambitious companies including KONGSBERG Digital (KDI), Instabank, Bergans of Norway, as well as several internally-launched startups including Cameralla, visitlocal.ly, and skift/academy. My day-to-day tasks may range from from formulating a brand strategy, conducting in-depth user and customer interviews, designing a clickable prototype from scratch for a new app concept, giving a speech on innovation, making a Chef’s Table-inspired lunch for the office, and anything and everything in between.
I have also a part of the founding team of Shindig, a Melbourne-based startup that connects those who need something done with those who love to do it. In short, we’re revolutionizing the way businesses connect with their customers and vice-versa.
Aside from my professional interests, I enjoy refining my digital and film photography skills and I am incredibly passionate about cooking. I also love to create original graphic designs and will be launching my online e-store soon — until then, my City Lines poster collection is available for purchase at Ildfluen in Drøbak, Norway.
